History of Tribune
Tribune was started in 1886. A train station was built in 1887. That's when Tribune became the county seat, which means it's the center of the county's government.
The city got its name from a newspaper called the New York Tribune. The editor of that newspaper, Horace Greeley, encouraged people to move west. He famously said, "Go West, young man!"
Since 2009, Tribune and Greeley County have worked together as one government. This is called a unified government. A group of five people leads this government. Two are chosen by city residents, two by people living outside the city, and one is chosen by everyone.
Because of this special setup, Tribune is one of the largest cities in the U.S. by land area. It's the biggest in the main part of the United States.
