Tridib Kumar Chattopadhyay (born October 30, 1958) is a famous Bengali writer and editor. He is the General Secretary of the Publishers & Booksellers Guild, which organizes the huge International Kolkata Book Fair. He also owns a publishing company called Patra Bharati.
About His Life
Tridib Kumar Chattopadhyay was born in 1958 in Kolkata, India. His father, Dinesh Chandra Chattopadhyay, was also a well-known author and publisher. Tridib finished his high school studies in 1975 at Hindu School. Later, he earned his Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Botany from the Calcutta University.
His Career as a Writer and Editor
Tridib Kumar Chattopadhyay began his writing journey in 1976. He started with Kishore Bharati Magazine, which his father, Dinesh Chandra, had founded. His very first novel, Haath (meaning The Hand), was published in 1985.
Chattopadhyay has written and edited many books. These include exciting science fiction stories, thrilling mystery novels, and a popular detective series called Jagu Mama. He has also written stories for adults. One of his novels, Mukhosher Arale, was even turned into a television show.
He has received several awards for his important contributions to Bengali Children's literature. Today, Chattopadhyay is the chief editor of Kishore Bharati magazine. He also runs the Patra Bharati Publication house in Kolkata. He regularly writes for Bengali magazines and gives guest lectures at the University of Calcutta. There, he teaches diploma courses about book publishing. Since 2004, Chattopadhyay has been the honorary General Secretary of the Publishers & Booksellers Guild. He is also a life member of the Indian Science Congress Association and the World Wildlife Fund.
