Trifon Marinov Ivanov (Bulgarian: Трифон Маринов Иванов) was a famous Bulgarian football player. He was born on July 27, 1965, and passed away on February 13, 2016. Trifon played as a defender, a player who helps protect their team's goal.
Ivanov was a key player for the Bulgarian national team. He played 76 games for his country and scored 6 goals over ten years. He also played in two FIFA World Cup tournaments, in 1994 and 1998. He also took part in the 1996 European Championship.

Club Career Highlights
Trifon Ivanov began his football journey with Etar Veliko Tarnovo. He first played for their main team in the 1983–84 season. After two years, he became a regular player. He played 62 games for Etar and scored 7 goals in Bulgaria's top league.
After five seasons at Etar, Ivanov joined CSKA Sofia. There, he helped his team win two Bulgarian league titles. They also won one Bulgarian Cup and one Bulgarian Supercup. His first game for CSKA Sofia was a big 5–1 win at home in August 1988.
In January 1991, Ivanov moved to Spain to play for La Liga team Real Betis. He scored 5 goals in 20 matches that season. However, Real Betis moved down to a lower league, the Segunda División. While with Betis, he also played on loan for his old clubs, Etar and CSKA. Later, in 1993, he joined the Swiss club Neuchâtel Xamax.
In 1995, Ivanov signed with Rapid Wien in Austria. With Rapid, he helped them win an Austrian league title. They also reached the final of the 1995–96 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup but did not win.
International Games
Trifon Ivanov was a very important part of the Bulgaria national football team. He helped them reach fourth place in the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States. This was a huge achievement for Bulgaria!
He also played in the UEFA Euro 1996 tournament in England. One of his most famous moments was scoring a goal against Russia on September 10, 1997. This goal was super important because it helped Bulgaria qualify for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.
Ivanov was known for his powerful long-range shots and free-kicks. In Euro 96, he often took shots from far away, sometimes 40 to 45 yards from the goal. These shots often came very close to scoring!
His Passing
Sadly, Trifon Ivanov passed away on February 13, 2016. He died from a heart attack.
His Legacy
To honor his memory, an amateur football tournament in Brazil was named after him in 2013. This shows how much he was respected in the world of football.
