Building the Church

How Trinity Episcopal Church Was Built

Trinity Episcopal Church was built in 1882. The land for the church was given by a person named Andrew Wolf. He also donated a house next to the church. This house was used as a rectory, which is a home for the church's priest.

The church hired a local builder, Oscar W. Gilman. He was in charge of designing the church and making sure it was built. Seven years after the main church building was finished, Gilman was asked to come back. He then added the bell tower to the church.

Church Design and Style

The Unique Look of Trinity Episcopal Church

Oscar W. Gilman's design for the church has some special features. It has a very steep gabled roof, which means the roof comes to a sharp point. It also has an apse, which is a rounded part at one end of the church. Strong supports called buttresses are also part of the design.

Gothic Revival Architecture

The church is a great example of the Late Gothic Revival style. This style copies the look of old Gothic churches. You can see this in its tall, narrow lancet windows. These windows are made of beautiful stained glass.

The walls of the church are made from bricks. These bricks were made by hand. They sit on a strong foundation of sandstone blocks. These sandstone blocks were also cut by hand. Both the sandstone and the clay for the bricks came from nearby areas.
