McArthur is a small village in Ohio, USA. It is also the main town, or county seat, of Vinton County, Ohio. The village is located about 27 miles (43 km) southeast of a city called Chillicothe. In 2020, about 1,783 people lived there.

History of McArthur Village

McArthur was planned out and officially started in 1815. It was first named McArthurstown. The village got its name from Duncan McArthur, who was an army general during the War of 1812. The oldest building still standing in McArthur is the McArthur Hotel. It was built in 1839 and was planned for updates in 2022.

Geography and Location

McArthur is found where two important roads meet. These roads are U.S. Route 50 and Ohio State Route 93.

The United States Census Bureau says that the village covers a total area of about 1.34 square miles (3.47 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 1.33 square miles (3.44 square kilometers), is land. Only a very small part, about 0.01 square miles (0.03 square kilometers), is water.
