Trisha Krishnan (born on May 4, 1983) is an Indian actress. She is famous for her work in Tamil and Telugu movies. Trisha became well-known after winning the 1999 Miss Chennai beauty pageant. This win helped her start her acting career.

People often call Trisha the "Queen of South India." She has won many awards. These include five Filmfare Award South and eight SIIMA Awards.

Trisha started with a small role in the 1999 film Jodi. Her first main role was in Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002). She became very popular with successful films like Saamy (2003) and Ghilli (2004) in Tamil cinema. In Telugu cinema, she starred in hits like Varsham (2004) and Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana (2005). She won three Filmfare Awards for Best Actress – Telugu for these roles.

Trisha also acted in a Hindi film called Khatta Meetha (2010). Her acting in films like Abhiyum Naanum (2008) and Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010) was highly praised. Early Life and First Steps into Acting

Trisha Krishnan was born on May 4, 1983, in Madras, Tamil Nadu. Her parents are Krishnan Iyer and Uma Iyer. She went to Sacred Heart Matriculation School in Chennai. Later, she studied Business Administration at Ethiraj College for Women.

Before acting, Trisha worked as a model. She appeared in many ads for print and TV. In 1999, she won the "Miss Salem" and "Miss Chennai" beauty pageants. She also won the "Beautiful Smile" award at the Miss India 2001 pageant.

Trisha first wanted to be a criminal psychologist. She was not sure about acting because she wanted to finish her studies. In 2000, she was in a music video. Then, director Priyadarshan offered her a role in the film Lesa Lesa (2003). This was the start of her acting career. She managed her studies and filming by taking summer classes.

Starting Her Career: 1999–2003

After winning beauty pageants, Trisha started acting. Her first small role was in the film Jodi (1999). She played a friend of the main actress. The first film she officially accepted was Lesa Lesa. However, this film and another one, Enakku 20 Unakku 18 (2003), were delayed.

So, her first movie to be released was Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002). In this film, she acted opposite Suriya. The movie did fairly well. Critics liked Trisha's fresh look and bright eyes. Her next film, Manasellam (2003), where she played a cancer patient, was not as noticed.

Her big break came with the action film Saamy (2003). She starred with Vikram. Trisha played a quiet college girl. Critics praised her performance. The film was a huge success, earning a lot of money. This led to many new film offers for Trisha.

Becoming a Star: 2004–2008

In 2004, Trisha made her debut in Telugu cinema with Varsham. This romantic action film made her very popular overnight. She played Sailaja, a girl who becomes a film star. In 2007, Trisha starred in Aadavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule with Venkatesh. She won her third Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu for this film. Her 2008 Telugu film Krishna was a blockbuster. She also received praise for her role in Abhiyum Naanum (2008). In this film, she played a young woman with a close bond with her father.

Continued Success: 2009–Present

In 2010, Trisha had a major role in the romantic drama Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. She played a Syrian Christian girl named Jessie. The film was a big hit. Critics loved her performance, calling it her "career-best." She also made her debut in Hindi cinema with Khatta Meetha. She played a strong municipal commissioner in this film.

In 2011, Trisha was part of two successful films. These were Theenmaar in Telugu and Mankatha in Tamil. Mankatha was the highest-earning Tamil film of that year. In 2012, she had two Telugu releases: Bodyguard and Dammu.

In 2013, she starred in the Tamil films Samar and Endrendrum Punnagai. Her role in Endrendrum Punnagai earned her another nomination for Best Actress. In 2014, Trisha made her debut in Kannada cinema with Power, which was a commercial success.

Her 2015 films included Yennai Arindhaal, where she played a dance teacher and single mother. This film was a commercial success. She also acted in the horror film Aranmanai 2 (2016), which was also successful. In 2016, she starred in the political drama Kodi. Her role as a politician with negative shades earned her the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress – Tamil.

In 2018, Trisha made her debut in Malayalam cinema with Hey Jude. She played a character with bipolar disorder. After this, she starred in the Tamil romantic drama '96. In 2022, Trisha starred in Mani Ratnam's film Ponniyin Selvan: I. She played the Chola princess, Kundavai. Her performance was highly praised. She reprised her role in the sequel, Ponniyin Selvan: II, in 2023. Her film Leo was released in October 2023.

In 2024, her old film Ghilli was re-released and became very popular again. She also starred in the web series Brinda as a police officer. Trisha has more films planned for 2025, including Vidaamuyarchi and Thug Life.

Trisha's Personal Life

Trisha lives in Chennai with her mother and grandmother. Her father passed away in 2012. Trisha can speak Tamil, English, Hindi, and French. She is also a vegetarian.

Her mother, Uma Krishnan, often goes with Trisha to film shoots and events. They even appeared in a commercial together. Uma Krishnan was offered acting roles herself but chose to focus on Trisha's career instead. Trisha has said that her mother is her biggest support.
