Trolli is a famous German company that makes yummy confectionery, which are sweet treats like candies. They are known for their fun gummy candies, soft marshmallows, and chewy licorice gums. Trolli sells its delicious sweets in more than 80 countries around the world! They have factories in places like Germany, Spain, and China.

The Story of Trolli

How Trolli Began

The company started way back in 1948 in Fürth, Germany. A person named Willy Mederer founded it. At first, his company, Willy Mederer KG, made pasta.

But then, something exciting happened! Rules about how much sugar people could buy were removed. So, the company decided to switch from making pasta to making sweet treats instead.

Growing Bigger and Sweeter

Through the 1950s and 1960s, the company grew a lot. They started making many more kinds of candies. They even had 150 people working for them!

Their candies were sold under the name "Wilmed." This name was a mix of "Willy Mederer." In 1975, the company came up with a new brand name: 'Trolli'. This name became the main name for the company in 2012.

New Flavors and Fun Shapes

Willy Mederer's son, Herbert, took over the company in 1984. Under his leadership, Trolli added many new and exciting candies. They created sour flavors that made your mouth pucker!

They also made gummies with two layers, like the popular "Trolli-Burger." These fun candies helped Trolli become even more famous.

Expanding Around the World

Trolli started to grow internationally. In 1994, they opened a new company in Valencia, Spain, called Trolli Iberica S.A. A few years later, in 1997, they opened a factory in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Mederer Group also bought other candy brands. In 1998, they got eFrutti, another fruit gummy brand. Then, in 2000, they bought Gummi Bear Factory.

Making Candies in America

In the 1980s, Trolli candies became very popular in North America. So many candies were being sent there, about 40 tons every day! Because of this, Trolli built a factory in Creston, Iowa, in 1986.

Later, in 1996, Trolli's operations in the U.S. were sold. Over the years, different companies owned the Trolli brand in America. Finally, in 2013, it became part of the Ferrara Candy Company.

Supporting Sports

Trolli has even supported a football (soccer) club! From 2010 to 2014, they sponsored the team SpVgg Greuther Fürth. During this time, the team's home stadium was even called the Trolli Arena!
