What Was Tropical Storm Alberto?
Tropical Storm Alberto was a powerful weather system. It started as an area of swirling air with low pressure. This happened off the coast of South Carolina on August 5, 1988.
Alberto's Journey
The storm quickly began to move towards the northeast. On August 7, it officially became a tropical storm. At this time, it was about 60 miles (95 km) east of Nantucket, an island in Massachusetts.
Alberto kept moving fast. It reached the western part of Nova Scotia in Canada late on August 7. The storm then lost its strength the next day. This happened when it moved north of Newfoundland.
