How Tropical Storm Bailu Formed
On August 20, 2019, a storm started to form west of the Mariana Islands. The next day, a weather group in Japan named it Tropical Storm Bailu. Another weather group called it Tropical Depression 12W. Bailu got stronger as it moved over the Philippine Sea. On August 24, Bailu hit land in Manzhou Township, Pingtung County, Taiwan.
What Happened When Bailu Hit
Impact in the Philippines
Even though Bailu did not directly hit the Philippines, it still caused problems. Two people sadly died in Ilocos Norte. The storm also caused about 21 million US dollars in damage in that area.
Impact in Taiwan
In Taiwan, one person died because of Tropical Storm Bailu. Nine other people were also hurt. The storm caused about 74,000 US dollars in damage to buildings. It also damaged farms, costing about 2.83 million US dollars.
Impact in China
In Fujian, China, the storm caused about 1.5 million US dollars in damage.
