Truman's Early Days
Truman was officially planned and mapped out in 1899. It was named after Truman Clark, whose father worked for the railroad. A post office has been open in Truman since 1899, helping people send and receive mail for over a century.
Where is Truman Located?
Truman is found in the northeastern part of Martin County. It is about 13 miles north of Fairmont, which is the main city and county seat (where the county government is located). Truman is also about 16 miles south of Madelia.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Truman covers a total area of about 1.10 square miles (2.85 square kilometers). All of this area is land. Minnesota State Highway 15 is the main road that goes through the city, running along its east side.
