Tubize is a city and a municipality in Belgium. It's located in the Walloon Brabant province, which is part of Wallonia. On January 1, 2006, about 22,335 people lived in Tubize. The total area of Tubize is 32.66 square kilometers. This means about 684 people live in each square kilometer.
The municipality of Tubize includes several smaller areas. These are called Clabecq, Oisquercq, Saintes, and Tubize itself. Tubize is close to Flanders, another region in Belgium. Because of this, some people who live in Tubize speak Dutch.
Tubize's Train History
Tubize was once home to a famous factory called Les Ateliers de Tubize. This factory built locomotives, which are the engines that pull trains. These locomotives were known for their quality.
Preserved Locomotives
Many locomotives made in Tubize are still around today. At least six of them have been saved and can be seen. One of these, called Tubize 2069, is in Belgium. Two smaller, narrow-gauge locomotives (2365 and 2369) are in Finland. You can find them at the Jokioinen Museum Railways.
Another narrow-gauge locomotive, Tubize 2179, is preserved in Poland. One special locomotive is still working on the Pelion railway in Greece. It helps pull trains there. Three more Tubize locomotives are kept safe in Iran. These preserved trains show the important history of train building in Tubize.
