Tullamore is a small, friendly town located in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. It's part of the Parkes Shire area. In 2021, about 369 people lived here.
This town is surrounded by fields where wheat grows. Tullamore has its own railway station, which is part of the Bogan Gate–Tottenham line. The town also has a new medical centre and a school for all ages, from kindergarten to year 12.
One of the most exciting events in Tullamore is the Tullamore Irish Festival. This fun festival happens every year during the Easter long weekend. Did you know that Tullamore is the first town mentioned in the famous Australian song "I've Been Everywhere"?
History of Tullamore
The area where Tullamore now stands was first settled in 1870. Back then, it was known as "Bullock Creek." The post office opened under this name on April 1, 1890. Later, the town's name changed to Gobondery.
In 1895, two brothers, Tristan and Elliot Brophy, built a hotel. They named it "Brophy Exchange Hotel." Their family came from a town called Tullamore in Ireland. The Brophy family also owned a large property nearby, which they named Tullamore Station. People believe the town got its current name from this property. The post office officially became "Tullamore" in 1895.
Tullamore's Climate
Tullamore is located close to the very centre of New South Wales. This means it has clear seasons. Summers are usually long and hot, while winters are cool. The town doesn't get a lot of rain throughout the year. Most of the rain comes from strong thunderstorms or large cloud systems that move in from the northwest.
It's very rare, but snow has fallen in the Tullamore area twice. Once on July 5, 1900, and another time in 1874. Both times, the snow fell on the Melrose Plains, which are to the southwest of the town.
