Thura U Tun Tin (Burmese: ထွန်းတင်; October 2, 1920 – May 1, 2020) was an important politician from Myanmar, also known as Burma. He served as the Prime Minister of Burma for a short time in 1988. He was also a Minister of Finance for many years.

Early Life and Education
Tun Tin was born in Myitkyina in October 1920. He went to Mandalay College. In 1941, he earned his bachelor's degree there. During his youth, he was part of a student group. This group worked secretly against the British rule in Burma.
Military Career and Service
In 1942, Tun Tin joined the Burma Independence Army. He went to officer training school during the time Japan occupied Burma. After Burma became independent from the British, he continued to serve in the Burmese army. He was given the special title "Thura." This was for his bravery during a battle in 1949. The battle was called the Battle of Insein.
In 1950, he traveled to the United Kingdom. There, he took a special course for army police officers. Later, he became the chief army police officer for the Burmese Army.
Moving into Government Roles
After 1962, Tun Tin started working in government. He worked briefly in the Labor Ministry. He was a director-general there. Later, he became the Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Mines. After that, he worked in the Ministry of Defence. He was the Director of Military Training and Planning until 1972.
In 1972, he left the army. In the same year, he was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Co-operatives. This was under General Ne Win's government. In 1974, he became the Minister of Labor. Then, in 1975, he was appointed Minister of Co-operatives. This was in the BSPP government, led by Prime Minister Sein Win.
Key Political Positions
In 1977, Tun Tin became the Minister for Planning and Finance. This happened during a change in the government's leaders. In 1978, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister. He also kept his role as Minister for Planning and Finance. He served in these roles until 1988.
In June 1988, he was appointed Prime Minister. This was during a time of big changes in the country. He was the official head of the government of Burma. He served in this important role for a few months. Then, the military took control of the country.
Later Life and Passing
Tun Tin passed away on May 1, 2020. He was at the No. 2 Military Hospital in Yangon. He was almost 100 years old when he died.
