The Turbostar is a special type of train. It is a diesel multiple unit (DMU). This means it runs on diesel fuel and has its own engine. These trains were built by Bombardier Transportation. They were made at the Litchurch Lane Works in Derby, England.
The Turbostar was one of the first new trains. It came out after British railways changed. This happened when the railway system became private. The Turbostar is now the most common diesel train. There is also an electric version called the Electrostar.
The first Turbostar trains were ordered in 1996. They were for Chiltern Railways. These trains were called Class 168. They were also known as Clubman trains. Over time, more types of Turbostar trains were made. These include the Class 170, Class 171, and Class 172.
