Twelve Mile is a small community in Indiana, USA. It's an unincorporated town, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city does. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Adams Township in Cass County.
People sometimes say Twelve Mile got its name because it's about 12 miles from nearby cities like Logansport, Peru, and Rochester. However, the real story is that the town grew up around a railroad. It was located right at the 12-mile marker on that railroad line. The eastern part of Twelve Mile used to be a separate small town called Hen Peck. As both areas grew, they joined together and became known as Twelve Mile.
Fun Festivals in Twelve Mile
Twelve Mile is known for its exciting annual events! These festivals bring the community together and attract visitors.
The Twelve Mile Christmas Pageant
Every December since 1970, the town celebrates with the Twelve Mile Christmas Pageant. This special event takes place in Plank-Hill Park. It was started by Clifton Skinner. He worked at Bunker Hill Air Force Base, which is now called Grissom Air Reserve Base. Part of his idea for the pageant came from a tradition at the base. Airmen there would put up Christmas-themed displays in front of their barracks.
The Twelve Mile 500 Race
Twelve Mile is also home to a very unique event called the Twelve Mile 500. This is a riding lawnmower race! It's held every year on Independence Day (July 4th) and has been a tradition since 1963. Imagine lawnmowers racing for fun!
