A view of a Twenty20 match

Twenty20 or T20 cricket is a super fast and exciting version of the game of cricket. It started in England in 2003. It was created for matches between different counties (regions) there.

In a Twenty20 game, two teams play against each other. Each team gets to bat once. This batting turn is called an innings. Each innings lasts for a maximum of 20 overs. An "over" is when a bowler throws the ball six times to the batter.

A Twenty20 game usually takes about three and a half hours to finish. Each team's batting turn lasts around 75 minutes. This makes it similar in length to other popular team sports. The idea was to make cricket more action-packed and fun for people to watch, both at the stadium and on TV. It has become very popular around the world!

The people who created Twenty20 cricket in England did not want it to replace other types of cricket. Longer forms of cricket are still played and enjoyed by many.

Twenty20 Cricket Around the World

This exciting game has spread all over the cricket world. When international teams visit other countries, they usually play at least one Twenty20 match. All the countries that play Test cricket (the longest form of the game) now have their own T20 competitions.
