Twin Lakes is a village in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, United States. It's located near the Illinois-Wisconsin border, just east of U.S. Highway 12. The village officially became a village in 1937.

Twin Lakes is famous for its two main lakes, Lake Mary and Lake Elizabeth, which together cover almost 1000 acres of water. These lakes have always been a big draw. In the past, people visited many resorts there, and some even harvested ice from the lakes to keep things cold before refrigerators were common. Today, many homes in Twin Lakes are used for vacations, and the lakes are still a very popular spot for fun and relaxation. The village is home to over 6,000 permanent residents, plus many more who visit for holidays and weekends.

History of Twin Lakes Village

The area now known as Twin Lakes has an interesting past. Mary Rae, who was born in England in 1816, moved to America in 1833. She settled in a place that later became known as "English Prairie." In 1837, she married Jonathan Imeson, another early settler.

Their son, Robert, was the first boy of European descent born in Kenosha County. Mary and Jonathan had eight children in total, including the first set of twins born in the prairie. These twin girls were named Mary and Elizabeth. The two main lakes in the area, Lake Mary and Lake Elizabeth, were named after them. These lakes stretched into Illinois and almost reached the English Prairie.

A post office called Twin Lakes has been open in the village since 1891, helping connect the community.
