Early Life and Music Beginnings
Michael Johnson grew up in San Diego, California. He started writing rap songs when he was just 12 years old. He loved performing live and felt a strong connection to it. He released his first mixtape, Brainmatter, in 2004. His first studio album, Shoot for the Face, came out in 2006.
Music Career and Style
Johnson is known for his fast-paced rapping style called Chopper. This style first became popular in the central United States. Other artists like Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Twista, and Busta Rhymes might have influenced his music. He gained many dedicated fans over time.
His first studio album, Shoot for the Face, was released in 2006. It had 21 songs and featured other artists like Catmando and T-Nutty. In 2007, he released his second album, The Monster in the Dark, which included 18 songs.
Gaining Wider Attention
In May 2011, Twisted Insane became much more widely known. He was featured on a song called "Worldwide Choppers" by Tech N9ne. This song also included famous rappers like Busta Rhymes and Twista. "Worldwide Choppers" became Johnson's biggest hit in the United States. It reached number 15 on the U.S. Heatseekers Songs chart and number 4 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.
After this success, he released his third album, The Root of All Evil, in October 2011. This album had 18 tracks and featured many guest artists.
Later Albums and Collaborations
In 2014, Johnson released his fifth album, The Last Demon. It had 22 songs and featured artists like Rittz and JellyRoll. His sixth album, Voodoo, came out in 2015 with 20 tracks.
In 2016, he worked with Charlie Ray on a collaboration album called The Gatekeeper and the Keymaster. In the same year, he released a solo album, Shoot for the Face 2, which was a follow-up to his first album. It featured artists like Brotha Lynch Hung.
In My Darkest Hour was released in 2017 and included 19 songs. His recent albums, Sickopatomous and Sick James, were both released in September 2019. These albums featured many artists, including Rittz and Brotha Lynch Hung.
