Tyler Reed Dillon (born February 27, 1992), known as Ty Dillon, is an American professional stock car racing driver. He currently races full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series for Kaulig Racing, driving the No. 10 Chevrolet ZL1. He has also competed in other racing series like ARCA Menards Series and NASCAR Canada Series.

Ty Dillon won the 2011 ARCA Racing Series championship. At 19 years old, he was the youngest champion in that series for a while. Later, Ty Gibbs broke his record.

Dillon has spent most of his NASCAR career driving for Richard Childress Racing (RCR). This team is owned by his grandfather, Richard Childress. His older brother, Austin Dillon, also races in NASCAR for RCR. Their father, Mike Dillon, is a retired NASCAR driver and now works as RCR's general manager.

Ty Dillon started his racing journey in small cars like go-karts and Bandoleros. In 2009, he moved up to the K&N Pro Series East. He competed for the championship in 2010. Even though he only raced in eight out of ten events, he finished 13th in points. He also earned one win in the series at Gresham Motorsports Park in August 2010.

In 2010, Dillon raced in the ARCA Racing Series three times and won two of those races. The next year, 2011, he raced a full season in the ARCA series. He won seven races and became the series champion. He beat Chris Buescher by a large margin. However, Buescher won the rookie-of-the-year award by just two points.

NASCAR Truck Series Races

Ty Dillon made his debut in the Camping World Truck Series in 2011. He finished 18th at Kentucky Speedway. This race helped him get ready to race full-time for Richard Childress Racing in 2012. In only his second Truck Series race, he finished third at Texas Motor Speedway. At Homestead, he finished sixth, right before his brother Austin, who won the championship that night.

In 2012, Dillon finished ninth at Daytona. The next race at Martinsville, he got his best finish yet, coming in second behind his teammate Kevin Harvick. He had top-ten finishes in the first five Truck Series races that year. On August 31, he won his first Truck Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Dillon returned to the Camping World Truck Series in 2013. He won a race at Kentucky Speedway on June 27. Later that year, in Canada, Dillon was leading on the last lap. He was racing against 17-year-old rookie Chase Elliott. Dillon and Elliott touched cars in the final turn. Dillon hit the tire barrier, and Elliott won the race.

Dillon finished second in the 2013 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series standings. He was also named the series' Most Popular Driver at the end-of-season awards.

Part-Time Truck Racing (2014–2021)

In 2014, Dillon raced in the Truck Series at Eldora Speedway. He finished fifth in that event. He also raced in the final race of the season for NTS Motorsports and finished seventh.

In 2015, Dillon drove in three races for GMS Racing. He earned two top-ten finishes in those races. He also raced one event for NTS Motorsports at Bristol.

Dillon returned to the Truck Series in 2017 at Martinsville. He finished fifth for MDM Motorsports. He also raced at Eldora, finishing 12th.

In late 2023, it was announced that Dillon would race full-time in the 2024 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. This was his first full Truck Series season since 2013. However, Dillon later stepped out of the driver's seat. He took on a new role as a coach and mentor for Dawson Sutton.

NASCAR Xfinity Series Races

In June 2012, Dillon made his debut in the Nationwide Series at Dover International Speedway. In July, he finished third in the first Nationwide Series race held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In August 2013, it was announced that Dillon would race full-time in the Nationwide Series for 2014. He would drive the No. 3 Chevrolet for RCR, taking over from his brother Austin.

Dillon won his first Nationwide Series pole position at Las Vegas. He also earned poles at Kentucky and Kansas.

On July 26, 2014, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Dillon passed Kyle Busch on the final restart. He held off Busch to win the race. Dillon finished second to Chase Elliott in the 2014 Rookie of the Year standings.

In 2015, Dillon started the season with a third-place finish at Daytona. He finished a career-best third place in the final points standings for 2015. He also had his highest number of top-ten (25) and top-five (12) finishes that year.

In 2016, Dillon won his fourth career Xfinity Series pole at Daytona. He earned a $100,000 bonus by winning the Dash 4 Cash at Richmond. He finished second in that race behind Dale Earnhardt Jr.. Dillon finished fifth in points for 2016. He had five second-place finishes that season.

In 2017, Dillon raced in 27 Xfinity races. Even though he moved to the Cup Series full-time, he continued to drive the No. 3 Chevrolet for RCR part-time. He ended the season with 16 top-ten finishes.

In 2018, Dillon raced in a few Xfinity races. He did not race in the series in 2019 and 2020. In 2021, Dillon raced part-time for Joe Gibbs Racing and Our Motorsports.

On July 15, 2014, RCR announced Dillon would make his Sprint Cup Series debut. He raced the No. 33 car at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He finished 25th. Dillon also raced the No. 33 at Phoenix International Raceway, finishing 27th.

In 2016, Dillon joined Circle Sport – Leavine Family Racing. He shared the No. 95 car with Michael McDowell. Dillon also filled in for an injured Tony Stewart in the No. 14 car. He finished seventh at Talladega, but the credit went to Stewart. At Pocono, Dillon led his first three laps in Cup Series racing.

On November 28, 2016, it was announced that Dillon would replace Casey Mears in the No. 13 Chevrolet for Germain Racing in 2017.

Germain Racing (2017–2020)

Dillon started the 2017 season with a crash at the Daytona 500. He then had a 15th-place finish at Atlanta. He managed to get eight top-20 finishes later in the season. He finished 24th in the final points standings.

In 2018, Dillon avoided several large crashes to finish a career-best sixth place at Daytona. This was his first top-ten finish in the Cup Series after 71 starts.

To start the 2019 season, Dillon scored another sixth-place finish at Daytona. He again avoided many large wrecks. At Bristol, Dillon won his first stage ever. He also got his first top-five finish at the rain-shortened July Daytona race, finishing fourth. He finished 24th in points, just like in 2017.

Dillon's 2020 season started with a crash at the Daytona 500. The next week at Las Vegas, he finished 10th, his first top-ten on a non-plate track. At Talladega, Dillon finished third, which was a new career-best for him. In Germain Racing's last season, Dillon finished 26th in the points standings.

Germain Racing announced they would close after the 2020 season. This was due to a lack of sponsorship. They sold their racing spot to the new team, 23XI Racing.

Gaunt Brothers Racing (2021)

On January 19, 2021, it was announced that Dillon would try to race in the 2021 Daytona 500 for Gaunt Brothers Racing. He would drive the No. 96 Toyota. This was the first time Dillon drove a Toyota in NASCAR. He also raced in the 2021 Busch Clash for 23XI Racing. Despite a good qualifying race, Dillon did not make it into the 2021 Daytona 500.

Petty GMS (2022)

In October 2021, GMS Racing announced that Dillon would drive the No. 94 Chevrolet in their first Cup season in 2022. Later, his car number changed to No. 42. He became teammates with Erik Jones. In July 2022, Dillon confirmed he would not return to the team in 2023. His car faced a penalty at the Pocono race for a technical issue. Dillon finished the season 29th in the points standings.

Spire Motorsports (2023)

On October 18, 2022, Spire Motorsports announced that Dillon would drive the No. 77 full-time in 2023. He had a tough season, finishing 40th at the Daytona 500. He did not get any top-ten finishes and only five top-20 finishes. He ended the season 32nd in the standings. In October 2023, Spire announced that Carson Hocevar would replace Dillon for the 2024 season.

Multiple Teams (2024)

On March 25, 2024, Kaulig Racing announced that Dillon would drive the No. 16 car in five races. He started with the Richmond spring race. In May, he drove the No. 50 car for Team AmeriVet at the Coca-Cola 600. In July, Dillon returned to Richard Childress Racing for the first time since 2015. He drove the No. 33 car at the Brickyard 400, finishing 19th.

Kaulig Racing (2025)

Dillon will return to the Cup Series full-time in 2025. He will drive the No. 10 car for Kaulig Racing, replacing Daniel Hemric.

Other Racing Series

On June 16, 2014, Dillon announced he would race in the Trans-Am Series. He competed at Road America for Miller Racing. He started sixth and finished fourth in the race.

Personal Life

Ty Dillon grew up in North Carolina. His parents are Mike Dillon and Tina Dillon. His brother, Austin Dillon, is also a NASCAR Cup Series driver.

His grandfather is Richard Childress. Richard Childress is a well-known businessman and former race car driver. He owns the NASCAR team Richard Childress Racing.

On December 28, 2013, Dillon announced he was engaged to his girlfriend, Haley Carey. Haley was a former driver and a cheerleader for the Charlotte Hornets. They got married on December 20, 2014. They have a daughter, Oakley Ray Dillon, born in 2017. Their son, Kapton Reed Dillon, was born in 2020.

In 2017, Fin & Field magazine named Dillon the "Most Interesting Sportsman in the World." Dillon also creates weekly video blogs called The Ride, where he shares his personal and racing life.

Dillon used to co-own a sports management company called Team Dillon Management with his brother Austin. In 2019, Dillon left TDM. He joined KHI Management Agency, which is owned by fellow driver Kevin Harvick.
