Darby Cottle Veazey: A Softball Star
Darby Cottle Veazey was born and grew up in Ty Ty. She became a very successful softball player. She was named an All-American twice, which means she was one of the best players in the country. Her number was even retired at Florida State University, a rare honor for athletes. In 1981, the USOC named her the "Best Amateur Softball Player" in the nation. She also won the important Broderick Award.
James "Big Chief" Wetherington: A Gospel Music Voice
Ty Ty is also the hometown of James “Big Chief” Wetherington. He was a famous bass singer known for his deep voice. He sang with many gospel music groups, and he was especially well-known for his time with The Statesmen.
