Tye is a city located in Taylor County, Texas. In 2020, about 1,176 people lived there. It is part of the larger Abilene area.

City History

Around the year 1900, the T & P Railroad held a contest. They wanted to choose a name for one of the towns along their train route. The name chosen was Tye. It was named after John P. Tye, who was a Methodist minister. He was also the first postmaster of the town. Before 1900, the town was called Tebo.
