Elliott Tyrone Waller, born on March 14, 1957, is often known as Tye Waller. He is a former professional baseball player. Tye played as a third baseman in Major League Baseball (MLB). After his playing days, he became a coach for the Oakland Athletics. He coached them from 2007 to 2015.
Playing Career Highlights
Tye Waller started his baseball journey when he was chosen by teams. In 1975, the San Francisco Giants picked him in the draft, but he did not sign with them. Later, in 1977, the St. Louis Cardinals drafted him. He then signed his first professional contract.
Tye played for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1980. After that season, he moved to the Chicago Cubs. He was part of a trade between the Cardinals and the Cubs. He played for the Cubs in 1981 and 1982. In 1983, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox. After that year, Tye signed with the Houston Astros. He played his last MLB season with the Astros in 1987.
Life After Playing
After his time as a player, Tye Waller continued to work in baseball. He spent 19 years with the San Diego Padres. With the Padres, he worked as a coach and a manager. He also helped develop new players as a roving instructor.
From 1999 to 2005, Tye became a baseball executive. He was the Director of Player Development for the Padres. This meant he helped guide young players as they grew in the sport.
Tye comes from a baseball family. His brother, Reggie Waller, also became a baseball executive. Another brother, Kevin Waller, played in the minor leagues. Tye's nephews, Gerric and Derric Waller, also played minor league baseball.
