He also set a school record for the most yards gained after an interception. This means he ran the ball a long way after catching it from the other team. His 392 interception return yards are still an Iowa record. This also ranks him among the top players in Big Ten Conference history. Tyler was recognized as one of the best defensive players in college football.

Playing in the NFL

On January 13, 2011, Tyler decided to leave college early to join the 2011 NFL Draft. This is where professional teams choose new players. The New York Giants picked him in the sixth round.

Tyler became a member of the Giants team that won Super Bowl XLVI. This is a huge championship game in American football. He was a Super Bowl champion in his first year! Tyler played for the Giants for two seasons. He was later released from the team on August 31, 2013.

Later Life and Health

Tyler Sash passed away on September 8, 2015, at his home in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was 27 years old.

Several months after his passing, Tyler's family shared important information about his health. Tests on his brain showed that he had a condition called chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). CTE is a brain disease that can happen from repeated head injuries. It is a degenerative disease, meaning it gets worse over time. Tyler is one of many former NFL players who have been diagnosed with CTE after their death. This condition is linked to the many hits players can take to their heads during football games.
