How Tyner Started
The area was first officially marked out on a map in 1855. This process is called "platting." When it was platted, it was given the name "Tyner City."
Naming the Community
The name "Tyner City" honored Thomas Tyner. He was one of the people who helped establish the community. The local post office also used the name "Tyner City" from 1856. Later, in 1894, the post office name was shortened to just "Tyner."
