A typhoon is a very strong storm that forms over warm ocean waters. It is a type of tropical cyclone. Typhoon Jebi was one of the most intense tropical cyclones in the Northern Hemisphere in 2018. It was the strongest typhoon to hit Japan since Typhoon Yancy in 1993.
Jebi's Incredible Journey
Jebi started as the twenty-first named storm of the 2018 typhoon season. It formed on August 28. The storm grew stronger and reached its peak power on August 31. This happened after it passed over the Northern Mariana Islands.
Jebi slowly started to lose strength on September 2. It then made landfall in Japan on September 4. First, it hit Shikoku, then the Kansai region. Even though it was weakening, it was still a very strong typhoon when it hit Japan. Jebi finally died down on September 7.
