Typhoon Molave (2020) facts for kids
Typhoon Molave, also called Typhoon Quinta in the Philippines, was a very strong storm. It hit the Philippines and then Vietnam in October 2020. It was the strongest storm to hit Vietnam since Typhoon Damrey in 2017.
Molave was the 18th named storm and the 8th typhoon of the 2020 Pacific typhoon season. It started as a small storm system on October 23, east of Palau.
The next day, on October 24, at 3:00 PM UTC, the storm grew bigger and was named Tropical Storm Molave. It moved northwest. Molave became a typhoon on October 25 as it turned west. Soon after, it hit land in the Philippines in places like San Miguel Island in Albay, Malinao, San Andres, Torrijos, and Pola.
After leaving the Philippines, Molave moved into the South China Sea and got even stronger. It became a very powerful storm, like a Category 3 typhoon, later that day. But as it got closer to Vietnam, it started to get weaker. The typhoon hit Vietnam on October 28. After hitting Vietnam, it quickly became much weaker as it moved further inland.
