Tyreek Hill (born March 1, 1994) is an amazing American professional football player. He is known for his incredible speed. Tyreek plays as a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he played college football for several teams. These included the Garden City Broncbusters, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and West Alabama Tigers. The Kansas City Chiefs drafted him in 2016.
Tyreek was also a talented track and field athlete. Early in his NFL career, he was a return specialist. Later, he became a full-time wide receiver. People call him "Cheetah" because he is so fast. He has been chosen for the Pro Bowl eight times. He also won Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs. He was even named to the National Football League 2010s All-Decade Team.

Early Life and Track Star Days
Tyreek Hill was born on March 1, 1994. His parents are Anesha Sanchez and Derrick Shaw. He grew up in Douglas, Georgia. Tyreek went to Coffee High School. There, he was a champion in both the 100 meters and 200 meters races. He won these events at the 2012 Georgia 5A state meet.
Tyreek was recognized as a top track and field athlete in 2012. USA Today named him an All-American. Track and Field News called him "High School Athlete of the Year." He ran the 100-meter sprint in 10.19 seconds. His 200-meter time was 20.14 seconds. This was one of the fastest times for a young athlete.
College Football Journey
Tyreek Hill played football and ran track in college. He attended three different universities.
Garden City Broncbusters
Tyreek started his college career at Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kansas. He was a dual-sport athlete there. In 2013, he showed his skills as a running back. He gained 659 rushing yards and scored five touchdowns. He also caught 67 passes for 532 receiving yards for the Broncbusters football team.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
After Garden City, Tyreek was a highly sought-after player. He chose to go to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He joined the Cowboys team.
He played his first game for the Cowboys on August 30, 2014. He caught six passes for 62 yards. Later, he scored his first college touchdown against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He also returned a kick 97 yards for a touchdown against the Iowa State Cyclones. In another game, he rushed for 102 yards against the Kansas State Wildcats.
His last game with Oklahoma State was on December 6. He helped his team win against the Oklahoma Sooners. He returned a punt for a 92-yard touchdown in that game.
Moving On From Oklahoma State
Tyreek left Oklahoma State in December 2014. This was due to some off-field issues. During his time there, he gained 534 rushing yards and 381 receiving yards. He also had many return yards. Overall, he had 1,911 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns. He was a top player in punt returns nationally.
West Alabama Tigers
In September 2015, Tyreek enrolled at the University of West Alabama. He joined their football team, the Tigers. The coach, Brett Gilliland, decided to give him a chance.
Tyreek continued to be a versatile player. He ran for 237 yards and caught 444 yards. He also returned punts and kicks for touchdowns. He played 11 games for the Tigers. He had a standout game against Delta State. In that game, he gained 307 all-purpose yards.

Getting Drafted
Many thought Tyreek might not be drafted in 2016. This was because of his past off-field issues. However, he impressed scouts at West Alabama's Pro Day. His incredible speed stood out. About 20 NFL teams were interested in him.
The Kansas City Chiefs selected Tyreek in the fifth round. He was the 165th player chosen overall. He was the first player from West Alabama drafted since 1974. The Chiefs carefully reviewed his background before drafting him. They signed him to a four-year contract on May 17, 2016.

Kansas City Chiefs Highlights
Tyreek Hill spent six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. He became a superstar player.
Rookie Season (2016)
Tyreek started as a punt and kick returner. He was also a wide receiver. In his first NFL game, he caught a nine-yard touchdown pass. This helped the Chiefs win against the San Diego Chargers. He had a fantastic game against the Denver Broncos in Week 12. He scored a kick return touchdown, a rushing touchdown, and a receiving touchdown. He was the first player since 1965 to do this in one game. His speed was measured at 22.77 mph, the fastest in the NFL that season.
He finished his rookie year with six receiving touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns. He also had three return touchdowns. He led the league in punt return yards. He was named to the 2017 Pro Bowl as a return specialist. He was also selected as a first-team All-Pro.
Building Momentum (2017)
In 2017, Tyreek focused more on being a wide receiver. In the season opener, he had 133 receiving yards. This included a 75-yard touchdown catch against the New England Patriots. He also scored an 82-yard punt return touchdown against the Houston Texans.
He had a season-high 185 receiving yards and two touchdowns against the New York Jets. He was named to his second Pro Bowl. He finished the season with 1,183 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
Star Receiver (2018)
The 2018 season was huge for Tyreek. In Week 1, he returned a punt 91 yards for a touchdown. He also caught two receiving touchdowns against the Los Angeles Chargers. He had three touchdowns in a single game for the second time. He caught three touchdowns against the Patriots in Week 6.
He recorded 10 catches for 215 yards against the Los Angeles Rams. This was the most by any NFL receiver at that point. He finished the season with 1,479 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He was named to his third Pro Bowl and earned first-team All-Pro honors.
Super Bowl Champion (2019)
In 2019, Tyreek faced a temporary suspension from team activities due to an investigation. The NFL later announced he would not be disciplined. He signed a three-year contract extension.
He injured his shoulder in the season opener. He returned in Week 6, catching two touchdowns against the Houston Texans. He had 140 receiving yards against the Minnesota Vikings. He also had 157 yards against the Tennessee Titans.
Tyreek finished the season with 860 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He earned his fourth Pro Bowl nomination. The Chiefs won the AFC West and made the playoffs. In Super Bowl LIV, he caught nine passes for 105 yards. His 44-yard catch in the fourth quarter helped the Chiefs come back. They won the Super Bowl 31–20 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Another Super Bowl Trip (2020)
Tyreek started the 2020 season with a touchdown catch in four straight games. In Week 12, he had a career-high 269 receiving yards. He also caught three touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
He finished the 2020 season with 1,276 receiving yards and 15 receiving touchdowns. He also had two rushing touchdowns. He earned his fifth Pro Bowl nomination and third first-team All-Pro selection. The Chiefs reached Super Bowl LV, but lost to the Buccaneers.
Final Chiefs Season (2021)
Tyreek had a strong start to 2021. He caught 11 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown against the Cleveland Browns. In Week 4, he had 11 receptions for 186 yards and three touchdowns against the Philadelphia Eagles.
He broke the Chiefs' franchise record for receptions in a season with 111. He finished with 1,239 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. He earned his sixth Pro Bowl nomination. In the playoffs, he had 11 receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills. This helped the Chiefs win in overtime.
Miami Dolphins Era
In 2022, Tyreek Hill joined the Miami Dolphins. He continued to set records.
New Team, New Records (2022)
On March 23, 2022, the Chiefs traded Tyreek to the Miami Dolphins. He signed a four-year, $120 million contract. This made him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL at the time.
He made his Dolphins debut in Week 1, catching eight passes for 94 yards. In Week 2, he had 11 catches for 190 yards and two touchdowns against the Baltimore Ravens. He had several other games with over 100 receiving yards.
Tyreek finished 2022 with career highs in receptions (119) and receiving yards (1,710). He helped the Dolphins reach the playoffs. He was named to his seventh Pro Bowl and earned first-team All-Pro honors.
Leading the League (2023)
In Week 1 of 2023, Tyreek caught 11 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns against the Los Angeles Chargers. He had 157 yards and a touchdown against the Denver Broncos in Week 3. He continued to have many games with over 150 receiving yards.
He reached over 1,000 receiving yards by Week 8. This made him the first player in the Super Bowl era to do so. He was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October. He finished the 2023 season with a franchise-record 1,799 receiving yards. He also had 13 receiving touchdowns, leading the NFL in both categories. He earned Pro Bowl and First Team All-Pro honors.
A Challenging Season (2024)
Before his season debut on September 8, 2024, Tyreek had a minor incident with Miami police. He still played against the Jacksonville Jaguars, catching seven passes for 130 yards and an 80-yard touchdown. He also had a strong game against the New York Jets in Week 14.
The Dolphins finished the 2024 season with an 8–9 record. They missed the playoffs for the first time in Tyreek's career. He had his lowest number of catches and yards in five years.
Injury in 2025
Tyreek made his 2025 debut against the Indianapolis Colts. In Week 4, on September 29, 2025, he suffered a serious season-ending injury. He dislocated his left knee and tore multiple ligaments. He underwent surgery and is expected to return for the 2026 season.
He finished his 2025 season with 21 receptions for 265 yards and one touchdown.

Coaching Young Athletes
In 2020, Tyreek served as an assistant coach. He helped with the football program at Lee's Summit North High School. This school is located in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Family Life
Tyreek Hill has three children with Crystal Espinal. He also has a son with Camille Valmon, born in March 2023.
In November 2023, Tyreek married Keeta Vaccaro. She is the sister of retired NFL player Kenny Vaccaro. In July 2024, they announced they were expecting a baby girl. The couple later separated in 2025.
In January 2024, there was a fire at Tyreek's home in Florida. Firefighters quickly put out the blaze.
