Tyreek Hill (born March 1, 1994) is an American professional football wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). He is known for his incredible speed, which earned him the nickname "Cheetah."

Before joining the NFL, Tyreek played college football for the Garden City Broncbusters, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and West Alabama Tigers. The Kansas City Chiefs picked him in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL draft.

As a rookie, he was a top return specialist, handling kicks and punts. Later, he became a full-time wide receiver. He has been chosen for the Pro Bowl in all eight of his seasons. He won Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs. He was also named to the National Football League 2010s All-Decade Team as a punt returner.

Early Life and High School Sports

Tyreek Hill was born on March 1, 1994, in Douglas, Georgia. He went to Coffee High School. There, he was a fantastic athlete in both football and track.

In 2012, he won state championships in the 100-meter and 200-meter races. He was even named "High School Athlete of the Year" by Track and Field News. His speed was truly amazing, setting personal bests of 10.19 seconds in the 100-meter and 20.14 seconds in the 200-meter sprints.

College Football Journey

Playing for Garden City

After high school, Tyreek attended Garden City Community College in Kansas. He continued to play football and run track. In 2013, he showed his skills by running for 659 yards and scoring five touchdowns. He also caught 67 passes for 532 yards.

Time at Oklahoma State

Tyreek then moved to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He joined the Cowboys football team. In his first game in 2014, he caught six passes for 62 yards. He scored his first college touchdown against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

He also excelled at returning kicks. In one game, he returned a kick for a touchdown and gained 148 yards. He helped his team win a big game against the Oklahoma Sooners by returning a punt for a 92-yard touchdown.

Tyreek left Oklahoma State in December 2014. In his one season there, he gained 1,911 all-purpose yards and scored five touchdowns. He was a versatile player, running, receiving, and returning kicks and punts.

Playing for West Alabama

In 2015, Tyreek joined the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama. He continued to be a key player for the Tigers. He ran for 237 yards and a touchdown. He also caught 27 passes for 444 yards and a touchdown.

He was also a strong returner, scoring two touchdowns each on punt and kick returns. He averaged 135 all-purpose yards per game.

In the 2016 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Tyreek Hill in the fifth round. He was the first player from West Alabama to be drafted in many years. On May 17, 2016, he signed a four-year contract with the Chiefs.

Kansas City Chiefs (2016–2021)

Rookie Season (2016)

Tyreek started his NFL career as a punt and kick returner. He was also a wide receiver. In his very first NFL game, he caught a nine-yard touchdown pass. This helped the Chiefs win against the San Diego Chargers.

Later in the season, he had a great game against the Denver Broncos. He scored three different ways: a kick return touchdown, a rushing touchdown, and a receiving touchdown. This was a rare achievement in NFL history. He was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for this performance.

He also returned a punt for a 78-yard touchdown against the Oakland Raiders. Tyreek finished his rookie season with six receiving touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns, and three return touchdowns. He led the NFL in punt return yards and touchdowns. He was chosen for the 2017 Pro Bowl as a return specialist. He was also named to the NFL All-Rookie Team.

Second Season (2017)

In 2017, Tyreek continued to shine. In the first game against the New England Patriots, he had 133 receiving yards and a 75-yard touchdown. He also scored an 82-yard punt return touchdown against the Houston Texans.

He had an amazing game against the New York Jets, with 185 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He was selected for his second Pro Bowl. He finished the season with 75 catches for 1,183 yards and seven touchdowns. The Chiefs made the playoffs that year.

Breakout Season (2018)

The 2018 season was a big one for Tyreek. In Week 1, he returned a punt 91 yards for a touchdown. He also caught seven passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns. He had another game with three touchdowns against the Patriots.

He set a career high with 215 receiving yards in a game against the Los Angeles Rams. Tyreek finished the season with 87 catches for 1,479 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was named to his third Pro Bowl and earned First-team All-Pro honors.

Super Bowl Champion (2019)

In 2019, Tyreek signed a new three-year contract with the Chiefs. He missed some games early in the season due to a shoulder injury. When he returned, he quickly made an impact. He caught two touchdowns against the Houston Texans.

He had a 140-yard game against the Minnesota Vikings. He also had 157 yards and a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans. Tyreek finished the season with 58 catches for 860 yards and seven touchdowns. He earned his fourth Pro Bowl nomination.

The Chiefs had a great season, winning their division. In the playoffs, Tyreek helped the Chiefs win the AFC Championship game. Two weeks later, in Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers, he caught nine passes for 105 yards. His 44-yard catch on a crucial play helped the Chiefs come back and win the Super Bowl 31–20.

Another Super Bowl Appearance (2020)

Tyreek started the 2020 season strong, scoring a receiving touchdown in his first four games. In Week 12 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he had an incredible game. He caught 13 passes for a career-high 269 yards and three touchdowns. He was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

He finished the 2020 season with 87 catches for 1,276 yards and 15 receiving touchdowns. He also scored two rushing touchdowns. He earned his fifth Pro Bowl nomination and was named First-team All-Pro for the third time. The Chiefs reached Super Bowl LV but lost to the Buccaneers.

Final Chiefs Season (2021)

Tyreek had another strong season in 2021. He caught 11 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown in the first game. In Week 4, he had 11 catches for 186 yards and three touchdowns against the Philadelphia Eagles.

He broke the Chiefs' franchise record for receptions in a season, with 111 catches. He finished the season with 1,239 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. He earned his sixth Pro Bowl nomination. In the playoffs, he had a 64-yard touchdown catch against the Buffalo Bills in an exciting overtime win.

Miami Dolphins (2022–present)

First Dolphins Season (2022)

On March 23, 2022, the Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins. He then signed a big four-year contract with the Dolphins. He became one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL.

In his Dolphins debut, he caught eight passes for 94 yards against the Patriots. The next week, he had 11 catches for 190 yards and two touchdowns in a comeback win against the Baltimore Ravens. He had several more games with over 100 receiving yards.

Tyreek was named to his seventh Pro Bowl and earned First-team All-Pro honors for the fourth time. He finished the year with career highs of 119 catches and 1,710 receiving yards. He helped the Dolphins reach the playoffs.

Leading Receiver (2023)

He had another big game in Week 3, with 157 yards and a touchdown in a 70–20 win over the Broncos. By Week 8, he had already reached over 1,000 receiving yards, a very fast start to the season.

He finished the 2023 season with 119 receptions for a Dolphins franchise record of 1,799 receiving yards. He also had 13 receiving touchdowns. He led the NFL in receiving yards and tied for the league lead in receiving touchdowns. He earned Pro Bowl and First Team All-Pro honors again. His peers ranked him as the best player in the NFL.

Recent Season (2024)

Before his first game of the 2024 season, Tyreek Hill was involved in a traffic stop. Despite this, he played against the Jaguars, catching seven passes for 130 yards and an 80-yard touchdown. The Dolphins won the game 20–17.

In Week 14, he had ten catches for 115 yards and a touchdown against the Jets. The Dolphins finished the season with an 8–9 record and did not make the playoffs. This was the first time in his career that Tyreek missed the playoffs.

Personal Life

Tyreek Hill has three children with Crystal Espinal. In November 2023, he married Keeta Vaccaro. Keeta is the sister of former NFL player Kenny Vaccaro. In July 2024, Tyreek and Keeta announced they were expecting their first child together.

In March 2023, Tyreek also had a son with Camille Valmon.

In January 2024, a fire occurred at Tyreek Hill's home in Florida. An investigation showed that a child playing with a lighter caused the fire.
