Tyrell Deon Jenkins was born on July 20, 1992. He is a former American professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Atlanta Braves.

Tyrell Jenkins' Baseball Journey
Tyrell Jenkins was born and grew up in Henderson, Texas. His mother, aunt, and grandmother raised him. He went to Henderson High School in his hometown. There, he played both basketball and baseball. He was also a top recruit in American football. In 2010, he decided to play both college baseball and college football at Baylor University.
Starting with the St. Louis Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals picked Tyrell Jenkins in the first round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft. He signed with the Cardinals for $1.3 million. This meant he would not go to Baylor University.
Early Professional Games
Jenkins started his professional career in 2010. He played for the Johnson City Cardinals. He pitched in two games and did not allow any runs. He also had two strikeouts. In 2011, he returned to Johnson City. He had a 3.86 earned run average (ERA). He also got 55 strikeouts in 11 starts.
Moving Up and Injuries
In 2012, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny invited Jenkins to spring training. That season, he pitched for the Quad Cities River Bandits. He started 19 games. His ERA was 5.14, and he had 80 strikeouts. An injury to his back muscle ended his season early.
Jenkins began 2013 with the Peoria Chiefs. Later that year, he moved up to the Palm Beach Cardinals. His season ended in August because he needed shoulder surgery. He finished the year with a 4.70 ERA in 13 starts. Jenkins went back to Palm Beach for the start of the 2014 season. He did not pitch his first game until June due to his injury. In 13 starts, he had a 3.28 ERA. He also had 41 strikeouts in 74 innings. After the regular season, the Cardinals sent Jenkins to the Arizona Fall League.
Playing for the Atlanta Braves
On November 17, 2014, the Cardinals traded Jenkins to the Atlanta Braves. Shelby Miller also went to the Braves. In return, the Cardinals received Jason Heyward and Jordan Walden.
Minor League Success
Jenkins started the 2015 season with the Mississippi Braves. He played in 16 games. His record was 5 wins and 5 losses, with a 3.00 ERA. On July 9, he moved up to the Gwinnett Braves. This team plays in the Triple-A International League. He made his Triple-A debut against the Norfolk Tides. Jenkins stayed with Gwinnett for the rest of the year. He finished with 25 starts and a 3.19 ERA. At the end of the season, he was named the Braves' Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
Major League Debut
Jenkins began the 2016 season in Gwinnett's starting rotation. He pitched 57 and two-thirds innings and had a 2.97 ERA. In June, he started pitching in relief. This change was made to help him get to the major leagues. On June 16, 2016, Jenkins was called up to the major leagues for the first time. He made his MLB debut six days later against the Miami Marlins. He pitched one inning without allowing any runs.
On July 6, Jenkins made his first major league start. He pitched against the Philadelphia Phillies. He pitched four and two-thirds innings and gave up one earned run. On July 29, 2016, Jenkins earned his first Major League win. This was also against the Philadelphia Phillies. He pitched six innings, giving up only one unearned run. He also allowed four hits and four walks, and he had four strikeouts. On August 20, he was sent back down to Gwinnett. Jenkins was called back up to the Braves on September 17.
Time with the San Diego Padres
On December 8, 2016, the Braves traded Jenkins to the Texas Rangers. Brady Feigl was also part of this trade. In return, the Braves received Luke Jackson. The Rangers then removed Jenkins from their roster on December 21. On December 23, the Cincinnati Reds claimed Jenkins.
On January 3, 2017, the San Diego Padres claimed Jenkins. He started the season with the El Paso Chihuahuas. This team plays in the Triple–A Pacific Coast League. He had a record of 4 wins and 8 losses. His ERA was 7.76 over 82 and one-third innings pitched. He also had 56 strikeouts. The Padres released Jenkins on July 21.
