UConn Sports Teams
The sports teams at UConn are known as the UConn Huskies. They have 25 different sports teams for men and women. All these teams compete in the highest level of college sports, called NCAA Division I. Most of the Huskies' teams play in a group called the Big East Conference.
Sports Not in the Big East
Some UConn teams play in different groups because the Big East Conference does not have those sports:
- The football team plays on its own. This means they are not part of a conference for football.
- The men's and women's ice hockey teams play in a group called Hockey East.
- The women's rowing team competes in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Changes to Sports Teams
At the end of the 2020–21 school year, UConn decided to stop four of its sports teams. These teams were men's cross country, men's swimming and diving, men's tennis, and women's rowing.
