Uitikon is a village and a type of local government area called a municipality in Switzerland. It is located in the Dietikon district, which is part of the canton of Zürich. Besides the main village of Uitikon, this municipality also includes two other villages: Waldegg and Ringlikon.

Where is Uitikon Located?
Uitikon is found at the northern end of the Albis hills. These hills include the Uetliberg mountain, which forms the western edge of the city of Zürich. Even though the Uetliberg mountain is about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) to the southeast, some of its slopes are within Uitikon's borders.
Uitikon is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) west of Zürich city center. It sits about 150 meters (490 feet) higher than Zürich. The main road going west from Zürich to Birmensdorf passes right through Uitikon. The village of Uitikon is north of this road, while Waldegg and Ringlikon are to the south.
Land Use in Uitikon
Uitikon covers an area of about 4.4 square kilometers (1.7 square miles). A big part of this land, about 38.8%, is used for farming. Forests cover another 33.8% of the area. About 27.2% of the land is developed with buildings or roads. The remaining small part (0.2%) is non-productive, meaning it's made up of things like rivers or mountains.
In 1996, homes and other buildings made up 22.1% of the total area. Roads and other ways to get around made up the rest of the developed land. As of 2007, about 28.3% of the municipality's land was being developed with new construction.

Uitikon has a population of about 4,900 people (as of 2022). In 2007, about 11.9% of the people living there were from other countries. In 2008, the population was almost evenly split between males (49.4%) and females (50.6%). Over the past 10 years, the number of people living in Uitikon has grown by 18%.

Most people in Uitikon speak German, about 90.3% of the population (as of 2000). French is the second most common language, spoken by 2.1% of residents. English is third, spoken by 1.5%.
Age and Education
As of 2000, children and teenagers (ages 0–19) made up 19.5% of the population. Adults (ages 20–64) were the largest group at 61.5%. Seniors (over 64 years old) made up 19%.
Uitikon has many well-educated residents. About 89.6% of adults aged 25-64 have finished either advanced high school education or higher education, like university. There are 1,569 households in Uitikon.
Jobs and Economy
Uitikon has a low unemployment rate of 1.51%. As of 2005, 55 people worked in the primary economic sector, which includes farming. There were 13 businesses in this sector. The secondary sector, which includes manufacturing, employed 60 people across 13 businesses. The tertiary sector, which includes services, employed 785 people in 154 businesses. In 2007, 65% of working people had full-time jobs, and 35% worked part-time.
Religious Beliefs
As of 2008, there were 1,055 Catholics and 1,607 Protestants in Uitikon. A census in 2000 showed that 47.2% of the population were Protestant, with most of them (45.2%) belonging to the Swiss Reformed Church. About 27.8% of the population were Catholic. A small number of people belonged to other religions (4.5%), or did not state a religion (2.3%). About 17.6% of the population were atheist or agnostic, meaning they did not believe in a god or were unsure.
How to Get Around Uitikon
The main road that goes west from Zürich to Birmensdorf runs through Uitikon. This road also connects to the A3 motorway, a major highway located to the west.
Train and Bus Services
The Uitikon Waldegg railway station, located in the village of Waldegg, is a stop on the S-Bahn Zürich train line S10. The PostAuto bus route 201 connects the villages of Uitikon, Waldegg, and Ringlikon to each other and to the Waldegg train station. The village of Ringlikon also has its own train station, Ringlikon railway station, which is also on the S10 line.
