Ulrich "Uli" Stein (born on October 23, 1954) is a German former professional footballer. He played as a goalkeeper. Between 1978 and 1997, he played in 512 games in the German Bundesliga, which is Germany's top football league.

Uli Stein's Club Career
Early Years and Big Clubs
Uli Stein started his professional football journey in 1978. His first club was Arminia Bielefeld. After playing there for two years, he moved to Hamburger SV in 1980. He stayed with Hamburger SV until 1987.
In 1987, Uli Stein joined Eintracht Frankfurt. He played for this team until 1994. After that, he returned to his former club, Hamburger SV, for one more year. In 1995, he transferred back to Arminia Bielefeld. He finished his main playing career during the 1996–97 season.
Major Wins and Achievements
Uli Stein had a very successful career. He helped Hamburger SV win the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) in 1987. He also won two German Bundesliga titles with Hamburger SV. These were in the 1981–82 and 1982–83 seasons.
The biggest moment of his career was winning the European Cup in 1983. This was a huge competition for top European clubs. He also won the DFB-Pokal again with Eintracht Frankfurt in 1988. During his time at Eintracht Frankfurt, he became one of the most popular goalkeepers for the club.
Challenges and Changes
During his career, Uli Stein sometimes faced challenges. In 1987, after an incident, he left Hamburger SV. He then joined Eintracht Frankfurt. He played there until 1994, when he moved on from the team.
Uli Stein's International Career
Playing for West Germany
Uli Stein played for the West Germany national team six times. This was between 1983 and 1986. He was part of the West German team that played in the 1986 FIFA World Cup final in Mexico. They were defeated by Argentina in that match.
End of International Play
His time playing for the national team ended after some disagreements with the West German coach, Franz Beckenbauer. Uli Stein later shared his thoughts that he might have been a second choice goalkeeper due to pressure from a sponsor.
Uli Stein's Managerial Career
After his playing days, Uli Stein became a coach. In 2007, he worked as the goalkeeping coach for the Nigeria national team. In 2008, he became the goalkeeping coach for the Azerbaijan national team. He worked there under another German coach, Berti Vogts, until 2014.
