Ulysses Simpson "Killer" McPherson Jr. was an important figure in American football. He worked as a coach and also helped manage college sports programs. He was known for his coaching skills at several universities.
McPherson was the second head football coach at Mississippi Vocational College. This school is now called Mississippi Valley State University. He coached there for four seasons, from 1954 to 1957. During this time, his team had a great record of 26 wins, 8 losses, and 2 ties. Later, he became the head football coach at Jackson State University. He coached there from 1969 to 1970.
In 1971, McPherson joined Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. He worked there as an assistant football coach. The next year, in February 1972, he took on a new role.
