The Union County Park Commission Administration Buildings are important historic buildings. They are located in Warinanco Park in Elizabeth, New Jersey. These buildings, the Administration Building and the Service Building, were built almost 100 years ago. They were finished in 1924 and 1925.

These buildings were designed in the Tudor Revival style. This style looks like old English Tudor homes. They were built soon after the Union County Park Commission was created. In 1985, they were added to both the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are recognized as very important historical sites.

How the Parks Began

The idea for the Union County Park Commission started in April 1921. A judge named James J. Bergen was asked to create a temporary group. This group would study if a park commission was a good idea. On April 30, a temporary commission was formed. They were given $10,000 and two years to complete their study.

The group worked very quickly. They finished their study in just five months. They even returned most of the money, giving back $8,391. Their report said it was important to act fast. They wanted to save open spaces before they were all built on. On November 8, 1921, voters had a chance to decide. They voted to approve a permanent Park Commission. This commission would have five members. Voters also approved $2.5 million for the commission to use for parks.
