The Uniopolis Town Hall is a special old building in Uniopolis, Ohio. It has been a village hall and a museum. This building has a long and interesting history.

It was first built in 1875. Back then, it was not a town hall at all! It was a church called the Divinity Church of the United Brethren in Christ.

A Building with Many Lives

This historic building has changed its purpose over the years. It started as a place for worship. Then, it became a center for the community.

From Church to Town Hall

The building stopped being a church in 1900. The village of Uniopolis bought it that year. They turned it into their official village hall. This is where local government meetings happened. It served the community for over ninety years.

Becoming a Museum

After many years as a village hall, the building changed again. It began to be turned into a museum. This museum is for the Uniopolis Historical Society. It helps people learn about the town's past.

What the Building Looks Like

The Uniopolis Town Hall has a unique style. It is a simple example of Carpenter Gothic architecture. This style uses wood to create designs that look like stone Gothic buildings.

Special Features

The building has five tall, narrow windows on each side. These are called lancet windows. Its outer walls are covered with weatherboard, which are overlapping wooden boards. The building sits on a strong concrete foundation. An asphalt roof covers the top.

Why This Building Is Important

The Uniopolis Town Hall has been very important to the community. It was not just a government office. It also served as a place for community meetings. People used it as an auditorium for events.

A Historic Landmark

Because of its importance, the village hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. This list recognizes buildings that are special to American history. Even though it was built in 1875, its most important time for history began in 1900. That's when it started serving the community as a town hall.
