The University of South Carolina Upstate, also known as USC Upstate, is a public university located near Spartanburg, South Carolina. It was founded in 1967 to serve students in the Upstate region of South Carolina.
USC Upstate is part of the larger University of South Carolina System. It has about 5,200 students and over 300 full-time teachers. The university offers many different degrees, including bachelor's, master's, and even doctoral degrees. History of the University
The story of USC Upstate began when a local hospital in Spartanburg stopped offering nursing degrees. Community leaders, including a man named G.B. Hodge, saw the need for a new college in the area.
In 1967, the school opened as the Spartanburg Regional Campus. It started as a two-year college with just 177 students. The school quickly became popular and grew. By 1975, it became a four-year college and changed its name to the University of South Carolina Spartanburg.
In 2004, the university changed its name one more time to the University of South Carolina Upstate. This new name showed its goal to serve the entire Upstate region of South Carolina. Today, it is a major provider of education in the area, especially at the University Center Greenville, where several colleges work together.

USC Upstate is organized into five main colleges, each focusing on different subjects:
