Upper Kangaroo River is a small and peaceful village in the beautiful Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the Shoalhaven City Council area. This village gets its name from the Kangaroo River, which flows through it. The Kangaroo River is a smaller stream that eventually joins the larger Shoalhaven River. In 2021, a count showed that 151 people lived in Upper Kangaroo River.
Exploring Upper Kangaroo Valley
Just a bit further up the valley, you'll find an area officially known as Upper Kangaroo Valley. This spot is located across two different local government areas: the Municipality of Kiama and the Wingecarribee Shire. While it's a defined place on the map, the 2021 count found that no one was living there at that time. It's mostly a natural area, perhaps with some farms or undeveloped land.
