A Look at the Mall's Past
Uptown McComb was originally known as Edgewood Mall. It was the first and only enclosed shopping mall built in McComb. Prescott Sherman built it, and it first opened its doors in July 1987.
When it first opened, the mall had three main stores: JCPenney, Beall-Ladymon, and Walmart. The mall started with about 236,324 square feet (21,955 m2) of shopping space.
Changes Over the Years
In 1994, the Beall-Ladymon store became a Stage store. A few years later, in 1998, Walmart moved to a bigger location nearby. Then, in 1999, Sears took over the old Walmart spot.
The mall had a big makeover in 1999. JCPenney got bigger, and new spaces were added for more shops. A fourth large store, McRae's, also joined the mall. After this expansion, the mall grew to over 400,000 square feet (37,161 m2) of retail space. It celebrated its grand re-opening in September 1999.
New Stores and New Name
In 2007, Ashley Furniture HomeStore opened in the mall. The Stage store changed to Goody's in 2011. Sears closed its doors in 2012.
Later, Hobby Lobby opened in half of the old Sears space in 2015. Marshalls opened in the other half in 2016. In 2017, a company called RockStep Capital bought Edgewood Mall.
In 2019, it was announced that the Goody's store would change to Gordmans. JCPenney closed in July 2019. Finally, in July 2020, Edgewood Mall got a new name: Uptown McComb.
