The Günther's flat-tail gecko (Uroplatus guentheri) is a special kind of gecko. It's also called the Güenther's leaf-tail gecko. These geckos are active at night and are a type of lizard. They belong to the Gekkonidae family. You can only find this amazing gecko in Madagascar.

About the Name
The scientific name, guentheri, was given to honor a famous British scientist named Albert Günther. He studied reptiles and amphibians.
Where It Lives
You can find U. guentheri in the northwestern part of Madagascar. They live around a place called Ankarafansika and also near Morondava in western Madagascar.
What It Looks Like
This gecko can grow to be about 150 millimeters (or about 6 inches) long. This measurement includes its tail!
Its Home (Habitat)
Günther's flat-tail geckos love to live in forests. They are usually found in areas that are not too high up, between 30 and 120 meters (about 100 to 400 feet) above sea level.
How It Behaves
During the day, these geckos are very hard to spot. They use their amazing camouflage to look just like dead branches or bits of tree bark. This helps them hide from predators. They usually rest on small trees and bushes, less than 6 meters (about 20 feet) off the ground.
But when night comes, they become active! They start hunting for small invertebrates to eat.
Reproduction and Life Cycle
Günther's flat-tail geckos lay eggs. This means they are oviparous. Their round eggs are usually laid hidden among dead leaves on the forest floor.
