Ursula Karusseit (born August 2, 1939 – died February 1, 2019) was a famous German actress. She was known for her many roles on stage, in movies, and on television.

Life and Career

Ursula Karusseit was born in a place called Elbing, which is now Elbląg in Poland. When she was young, her family had to move from her hometown. She then grew up in other German towns like Parchim and Gera.

Becoming an Actress

Ursula studied acting at a special school in East Berlin until 1962. She first appeared on TV in 1963 in a show called "Was ihr wollt." This show was based on a play by William Shakespeare.

She spent many years acting at a famous theater called the Volksbühne. She became one of the most well-known stage actresses in East Germany. From 1986, she even played the main role in a famous play called "Mother Courage" for three years in Cologne.

Her Work in Film and TV

Besides her theater work, Ursula Karusseit also acted in more than 50 movies and many TV shows. One of her most famous roles was Gertrud Habersaat in the TV series Ways across the Country in 1968. This role made her very popular in both East and West Germany. In 1971, she played a brave German resistance fighter named Hilda Coppi in a movie called KLK Calling PTZ – The Red Orchestra. Resistance fighters were people who secretly fought against the government during a war.

After German reunification (when East and West Germany became one country again), Ursula joined a popular German hospital TV series called In aller Freundschaft. She played the character Charlotte Gauß, who ran the hospital's cafeteria. She was on this show for twenty years, until she passed away.

Personal Life and Passing

Ursula Karusseit married Benno Besson in 1969. Because of her marriage, she also became a citizen of Switzerland. She passed away in Berlin on February 1, 2019, at the age of 79, due to heart problems.
