Uruashraju is also known by another name, Verdecocha. Both names have interesting meanings. "Uruashraju" might come from the local Quechua language. In Quechua, urwa means infertile or a corn plant without a cob. Rahu means snow or a snowy mountain. So, it could mean "infertile snowy mountain."

The name "Verdecocha" comes from Spanish and Quechua. Verde means green in Spanish. Qucha means lake in Quechua. So, "Verdecocha" means "green lake." This name might come from a nearby lake.
