Vahan M. Kurkjian (Armenian: Վահան Մ. Քուրքջյան; 1863–1961) was an Armenian author, historian, teacher, and community leader. He spent his life helping the Armenian people and sharing their history.

Vahan Kurkjian: A Community Leader
Vahan Kurkjian was born in 1863. He grew up to be a very important person for the Armenian community. He worked as a writer, a historian (someone who studies the past), a teacher, and a leader.
Early Life and Big Ideas
In 1904, Vahan Kurkjian was in Cairo, a city in Egypt. He started an Armenian newspaper called Loussaper, which means The Morning Star. In this newspaper, he and other smart people wrote articles. They wanted all Armenian people to come together and form a strong national union. This idea was very important to him.
This big idea eventually led to the creation of the Armenian General Benevolent Union. This organization helps Armenian people around the world.
Helping Armenians in America
In 1907, Vahan Kurkjian moved to the United States. He went to Boston University to study law. Just two years later, in Boston, he started the very first American branch of the Armenian General Benevolent Union.
He was a key part of this organization from the beginning. He worked as its executive director until he retired in 1939. This means he was in charge of running many of its activities.
Writing History
Vahan Kurkjian also loved to write. He often wrote articles for Armenian newspapers. He also published several books and small booklets. His most famous book is called History of Armenia. This book tells the story of the Armenian people and their past.
