The Sheriff of Nottingham, whose real name is Vaisey, is the main bad guy in the 2006 BBC TV show Robin Hood. He is played by actor Keith Allen. People often compare his acting style to Alan Rickman's portrayal of the Sheriff in the 1991 movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Vaisey is known for his sarcastic humor and quick temper. He often uses funny phrases like "La di da di da!" and "A clue: no." He gets very angry when Robin Hood messes up his plans or when his helpers, like Guy of Gisbourne, fail him. He calls them names like "blithering oafs" and "idiotic buffoons."

Who is Vaisey, the Sheriff?
Vaisey became the Sheriff of Nottingham a few years before Robin Hood came back to England. He took over from Marian's father, Edward. As Sheriff, Vaisey became the leader of a secret group called the 'Black Knights'. This group was planning to remove King Richard from power. They wanted Prince John to become king instead.
Vaisey's Role in the Story
Prince John made a deal with Vaisey to protect him. If Vaisey was killed, Prince John promised to destroy Nottingham. This deal was a way to explain why Robin Hood did not simply kill the Sheriff. It made the story more exciting and complicated.
In an episode called "Sisterhood," Vaisey's sister, Davina, is introduced. He shows a softer side when he is with her. Sadly, Davina dies after a fight with Robin. Vaisey is very upset and promises to get revenge on Robin for her death.
Interesting Facts About Vaisey
The Missing Tooth
During the filming of a fight scene, actor Keith Allen actually lost one of his teeth. The show's writers decided to add this into the story. So, in the last episode of the first season, the Sheriff also loses a tooth.
In the second season, this became a funny running joke. The Sheriff would take teeth from skulls and try to put them in the gap in his own teeth.
His Final Showdown
In the third season, Prince John starts to make the Sheriff and Gisbourne fight against each other. In the episode "Do You Love Me?", they finally have a big fight. Gisbourne thinks he kills the Sheriff. However, at the end of the episode, it is shown that Vaisey survived. His fingers twitch as his body is carried away.
Vaisey later returns to Nottingham after Isabella loses control of it to Robin Hood and the people. He gets help from Blamire, who was Isabella's second-in-command. It is then revealed that Vaisey and Isabella have formed a team.
In a dangerous fight with Robin and Gisborne, Vaisey ends up killing Gisborne. Vaisey is finally killed by a dying Robin Hood. Robin, who has been poisoned by Isabella, shoots a burning arrow into barrels of special fire stored in the castle. Vaisey sees the barrels just before the entire castle explodes. He, Isabella, and their remaining men are all caught in the blast.
