About the Shows
These shows had a simple but exciting idea. Each episode featured a special guest. These guests were "VIPs," which stands for "Very Important Persons." They came from many different fields. You might see politicians, explorers, sports stars, or pop music artists.
How the Shows Worked
First, a short film would introduce the guest. This film gave viewers a peek into the guest's life. After the film, the guest would join the host in the studio.
The most exciting part was when the children in the audience got to ask questions. They could ask anything they wanted. This made the interviews very lively and interesting.
Famous Guests and Moments
One very memorable episode of Val Meets The VIPs featured Margaret Thatcher. At the time, she was the Secretary of State for Education and Science. This meant she was in charge of schools and learning in the British Government.
A child in the audience asked her if she wanted to be Prime Minister. She replied that she didn't have enough experience. She also said that there wouldn't be "a woman Prime Minister in my lifetime." Just two years later, she became the leader of her political party. In May 1979, she became the Prime Minister.
Margaret Thatcher also appeared on In The Limelight With Lesley in 1980. She was shown the clip from her earlier appearance. She was then asked to comment on her previous remarks.
