Valdo Cândido Filho (born January 12, 1964), known as Valdo, is a Brazilian former football player. He played as a central midfielder. Today, he is a football manager for the Congo national football team.
Valdo's professional career lasted over 20 years. He played in Brazil, Portugal, France, and Japan. He also played more than 40 games for the Brazil national football team. Valdo represented Brazil in two World Cups and two Copa América tournaments.

Valdo's Club Career Highlights
Valdo was born in Siderópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil. He started his football journey with Figueirense Futebol Clube. He then became a professional player with Grêmio Football Porto-Alegrense. With Grêmio, he won the Campeonato Gaúcho four times in a row.
Playing for Benfica in Portugal
In 1988, Valdo moved to Portugal to play for S.L. Benfica. His teammate Ricardo Gomes also joined Benfica. Valdo was a key player in his first season (1988–89). Benfica won the Primeira Liga championship that year. They won it again in 1991, with Valdo scoring five goals in 26 games.
Time with Paris Saint-Germain
In 1991, Valdo and Ricardo Gomes both moved to Paris Saint-Germain F.C. in France. They played there for four years. During this time, they helped the team win four titles. This included the Ligue 1 championship in 1993–94.
Returning to Benfica
Valdo returned to Benfica in 1995. In his second time with the club, he played 30 league games in each of his two seasons. He also helped Benfica win the Taça de Portugal (Portuguese Cup) in 1996.
Later Career and Retirement
At 32, Valdo joined the J1 League club Nagoya Grampus Eight in Japan. After two years, he went back to Brazil. He continued playing football until he was 40 years old. He played for six different teams quickly. He finished his playing career after helping Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas return to the top Brazilian league, the Série A.
Valdo's International Career
Valdo played 45 games for the Brazil national football team. This was over a period of six years. He was chosen for the 1986 FIFA World Cup squad. However, he did not play in any games during that tournament.
In the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy, Valdo was a starting player. He played in all four of Brazil's matches. This included their 1–0 loss to Argentina in the round of 16.
Valdo as a Manager
Valdo started working as a manager in 2009. He began in amateur football in Brazil. Five years later, he joined his former Benfica coach Artur Jorge. They worked together at MC Alger in Algeria.
