Vale is a small place in Avery County, North Carolina, in the United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city. You can find Vale northwest of Newland along a road called Old Toe River Road.
History
From 1904 to 1940, Vale was a special stop for trains. It was a "flag stop" on the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad. This meant trains would only stop there if someone waved a flag to get on, or if a passenger wanted to get off. Vale was located between the towns of Minneapolis and Newland on this railway line. Today, the road known as Old Toe River Road actually follows the path where the old train tracks used to be.
