Minneapolis is a small community located in Avery County, North Carolina, in the United States. It is found along US 19-E. This community shares its name with two other places in the country: a smaller town in Kansas and the much larger city of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
History of Minneapolis
The area where Minneapolis is located has a history connected to railroads. As early as 1904, the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad passed through this community. However, the trains did not stop there at first. They traveled between the towns of Cranberry and Montezuma.
In 1910, a special building called a depot was built in Minneapolis. This depot was mainly used to help a sawmill, which cut wood, and a factory that made products from asbestos. By 1937, the depot was no longer used, but trains still made quick stops there until 1940. After the train tracks were taken away, the path where the railway used to be became a road known as Old Toe River Road.
