The Valencian Bible was the very first Bible ever printed in the Valencian language. It was printed a long time ago, between 1477 and 1478. This Bible was super important because it was only the third Bible ever printed in a modern language! Before it, Bibles were printed in German (1466) and Italian (1471). The very first printed Bible was in Latin, back in 1455.

What is the Valencian Bible?
The Valencian Bible is a special book. It's a version of the Bible translated into the language spoken in Valencia, Spain. The person who translated it said it was "in our Valencian language."
Early Bible Translations
Before the Valencian Bible was printed, there were other translations. The first complete Bible translated into Catalan was made by the Catholic Church. This happened between 1287 and 1290. Alfonso II of Aragon asked Jaume de Montjuich to do this important work. Some parts of this old translation can still be found in Paris today.
The Story of the Valencian Bible
For a long time, people thought Daniel Vives was the main person who wrote the Valencian Bible. But now, experts believe the translation was actually done by Bonifaci Ferrer.
Why Copies Were Lost
Sadly, during a time called the Inquisition, almost all copies of the Valencian Bible were destroyed. They were burned, and Daniel Vives was even put in prison. This means it's very rare to find any parts of this old Bible today.
A Special Surviving Page
Even though most copies were lost, one paper sheet from this Bible still exists! You can find this very rare page at the Hispanic Society in New York City. It's a valuable piece of history.
