The Vallée River (which is rivière Vallée in French) is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Chaudière River, which then empties into the mighty St. Lawrence River. The Vallée River runs through two towns: Saint-Elzéar and Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce. These towns are part of the La Nouvelle-Beauce Regional County Municipality in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.

Where the Vallée River Flows

The Vallée River starts in a hilly area within the town of Saint-Elzéar. This starting point is about 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) west of the center of Saint-Elzéar village. It's also about 6.0 kilometres (3.7 mi) west of the Chaudière River and 8.0 kilometres (5.0 mi) northeast of a place called Mont-Sainte-Marguerite.

River's Journey

From its source, the Vallée River travels for about 9.8 kilometres (6.1 mi). It flows through areas with farms and forests. Here's how its journey is divided:

  • It flows north for 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) in Saint-Elzéar until it reaches a country road.
  • Then, it continues north for 3.8 kilometres (2.4 mi) up to the "route du rang du Bas Saint-Jacques."
  • Next, it turns northeast for 2.1 kilometres (1.3 mi) until it reaches the border of Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce.
  • Finally, it flows northeast for 2.4 kilometres (1.5 mi), crossing Route 171, until it joins the Chaudière River.

Where the River Ends

The Vallée River empties into the west bank of the Chaudière River in Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce. This meeting point is about 0.6 kilometres (0.37 mi) upstream from Île Perreault. It's also 4.2 kilometres (2.6 mi) downstream from the bridge in the village of Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce and 4.0 kilometres (2.5 mi) upstream of the Scott bridge.

Neighboring Rivers

Rivers are part of a larger system called a watershed. The Vallée River's watershed is surrounded by other important rivers and streams:
