The Savoie River (called rivière Savoy in French) is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Chaudière River, which then empties into the mighty Saint Lawrence River. The Savoie River travels through the towns of Saint-Elzéar and Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce. These towns are part of the La Nouvelle-Beauce Regional County Municipality in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
Where the River Flows
River's Journey
The Savoie River is about 7.2 kilometres (4.5 mi) (around 4.5 miles) long. It starts high up in the Haut-Saint-Olivier area, near Mont du Cosmos, in the town of Saint-Elzéar. This starting point is about 290 metres (950 ft) (951 feet) above sea level.
From its source, the river flows generally northeast.
- For the first 1.8 kilometres (1.1 mi), it stays within Saint-Elzéar.
- Then, it flows for another 1.6 kilometres (0.99 mi), marking the border between Saint-Elzéar and Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce.
- Finally, it travels 3.8 kilometres (2.4 mi) more before reaching its end.
River's End
The Savoie River finishes its journey by joining the Chaudière River on its west side. This meeting point is in Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce. The Chaudière River then continues north to the Saint Lawrence River.
