Valle de las Palmas: A City in the Making

Plans for a New City

The idea is to build a city here with about one million people by the year 2030. This new city will be close to Tijuana and Mexicali. It will be built along Mexican Federal Highway 3. There is already an industrial park and a university campus called Unidad Valle De Las Palmas in the area.

The first big project in Valle de las Palmas is called Valle San Pedro. The Mexican government, the State of Baja California, and a company called Urbi are working together on it. It's also supported by Banobras, a bank that helps with public projects.

This project is special because it's the first "Integral Sustainable Urban Development" (DUIS) in Mexico. This means it follows special rules to be good for the environment and the people living there. The Inter-American Development Bank IDB helped set these rules.

In 2010, about 1,860 people lived in Valle de las Palmas. The area is about 282 meters (925 feet) above sea level.

Getting Around Valle de las Palmas

Valle de las Palmas is located on Mexican Federal Highway 3. This highway goes north from Ensenada, Baja California. It is also south of the city of Tecate. Tecate is on a special toll road that connects Tijuana with Mexicali. There is also an older, free road that goes east and west.

Airports Nearby

The city of Tecate used to have its own airport. However, it closed because not many planes used it. As Valle de las Palmas grows, more people might travel, which could help the Tecate airport reopen.

For now, people in the Tecate area usually use the Tijuana International Airport. This airport is closer to Tecate than the Mexicali International Airport.
